Inwood Tractor Pull Class Rules Sheet - 2024

General Rules  

1. The Western Iowa Pullers Officers, Safety and Rules Committees, and the association appointed  Track Officials will govern the operation of the contest and the enforcement of association rules  with all decisions being final. These designated persons will have the authority to disqualify a  contestant’s vehicle that is being operated in an unsafe manner. This can be done in the pits, staging  area, or entering or exiting the track. The penalty for unsafe operation of a pulling vehicle will be  forfeiture of all winnings and event points including any applicable pre-commit bonuses.  

2. The first contestant in each class may decline their first pull as they are the “test” puller for the  class. If they decline their first pull they may choose to immediately pull again, drop to the third  puller in the class, or pull last in the same class. The second hook regardless of distance will be the  official hook for the vehicle in that class and that distance will be used for placing. Drivers who  exceed the speed limit or go out of bounds on the first hook in the class ARE eligible to drop the  hook and re-hook later in the class. Drivers found over the RPM limit on the first hook of the class  ARE NOT eligible to re-hook.  

3. If a “Pull-off” should occur, all disqualification rules apply, however, the puller being disqualified  will only drop to the lowest position in the pull-off and will still be awarded winnings and points  unless disqualified for operating the vehicle in an unsafe manner deemed by the track officials.  

4. In the case where the sled is responsible for the restart of the class, any pullers that have already  hooked will fall to the bottom of the class pulling order. Any puller disqualified prior to the re-set of  the sled would be allowed to rehook.  

5. All contestants will have a 100’ distance to shut down on their first attempt. They will be allowed  a 2nd attempt as soon as the sled can be repositioned and the track is cleared. The second attempt  will be the one used for official distance for that class.  

6. Contestants will be allowed to spot the sled. They should inform the sled operator before the sled  is positioned for their pull attempt.  

7. NO excessive jerking when starting the sled or during the pull. The Flagman may red flag the run  at ANY time.  

8. The pulling vehicle must remain in-bounds at all times. If any part of the pulling vehicle touches  the out of bounds line the run will result in a disqualification. The out of bounds line will run from  the starting line to the 300 foot mark.  

9. Any weight falling off of a pulling vehicle while hooked to the sled will result in a disqualification.  Once the chain is unhooked the pass is scored and official.  

10. A floating finish will be used where the facilities allow. At all other a “Full Pull” line will be set  and a pull-off will result if more than one vehicle pulls a greater distance than the “Full Pull” line  established. 

11. Once the sled is positioned and ready for the competitor to hook, the pulling vehicle has one  minute to begin its movement toward the track. Any mechanical problems must be reported to a  track official within the time limit and the vehicle may be dropped to last in the class.  

12. A protest of one competing member against another competing member requires a $500.00  deposit up front. All protests must be made within 15 minutes of completion of the event. First  contact a board member or class representative. Item protested will be checked and either puller or  protester will receive money. This goes for protest of any type, i.e., equipment, rules, fuels (fuel  sample to be taken and tested at independent lab, at loser’s expense), or any other protest.  

For rule violations the penalty will be:  

A. 1st violation – lose points and money for that day.  

B. 2nd violation – banned from the association for one year plus 1 day from the date of the violation.  

13. The Drawbar Height for tractor classes will be 20" maximum. The drawbar must extend  back at least 18" from the center of the tractor.  

14. If a clevis is used it be of the threaded type or must be secured with a Grade 8 nut and bolt.  

15. No weights located above the hitch restricting hook. A 10 inch minimum gap must remain clear  to allow for hooking and unhooking of the tractor.  

16. All pullers must be 16 years of age or have a written parental permission slip for participation.  

17. All Tractors are to be equipped with a RPM sensor; leads are to run to the back of the tractor.  The wires are to be visible the entire way from sensor to plug, any altering of the sensor or the  leads will result in disqualification. Members without a plug will not receive points or points  payout. Non-members without a plug are limited to 4 hooks (2 events) per year.  

18. All drawbars must have a hole 3” wide by 3-3/4” long to accept hooks from level 8 sleds.  Western Iowa Pullers is not responsible if you are unable to hook due to an insufficient drawbar.  

19. Members of the board reserve the right to disqualify a competitor who is under the influence of  alcohol and unfit to operate a competition vehicle.  

20. Hook fees for members will be $25 per hook. Prepaid hook fees at a discount are available. Non member hook fees are $30 per hook. Late hook fees are $40 per hook and are non-refundable,  regardless of circumstance.  

Membership 

1. Annual membership is $150.00 per tractor.  

2. Annual membership is mandatory in order to compete for points and receive points payout.  3. A daily membership is available for $15.00 per event.

Points Competition  

The following sanctioned classes will be eligible for points. Membership is required in order to be  eligible for the points competition. Random tech inspections may be done on any competing tractor  at any time. 

Super Field: 8200 lb. and 8700 lb.  

3000 RPM: 7700 lb., 8700 lb, and 9700 lb.  

Altered Farm: 10700 lb. and 11700 lb.  

Out of the Field Stock: 9700 lb., 10700 lb., 11700 lb., 12700 lb., and 13700 lb.  King of 15 MPH: 15000 lb.  

A breakdown of points awarded to eligible participants based on class standings is as follows:  

1st 50 points  2nd 48  

3rd 46  

4th 44  

5th 42  

6th 40  

7th 38  

8th 36  9th 34  10th 32  11th 30  12th 28  13th 26  

Disqualification will receive last place money and last place points for the event.    

There will be no points awarded pull is canceled. If pull is started then rained out remaining pullers  receive last place points.  

Each tractor will receive one “Points Mulligan” per year. You can miss one pull per year and be  awarded last place points for that pull. If more than one pull is missed the “mulligan” will be used at  the first opportunity.  

Tractors can participate in one class (two weights) for points. Points are tied to the tractor, not the  driver.  

Tractor Classes  

Out of the Field Rules  

Weight Classes: 4,700 lb. to 17,700 lb. (event dependent)  

All tractors must have a working rockshaft, hydraulics and PTO if factory equipped.  Any weight placement deemed un-safe will either be changed or result in disqualification.  All tractors must follow the general rules.  

 (4700 lb. – 8700 lb.)  

It is up to promotor discretion when dealing cut tires and cubic inch limits. All general safety rules  apply and must be followed.

(9700 lb. and Up)  

2700 RPM MAX.  

Stock block or factory replacement.  

Engine is not to exceed 466 cubic inches. (Case may run 504)  

P-Pump allowed if factory equipped 14,700 lb. class and above.  

Duals allowed in 14,700 lb. class and above.  

One factory equipped turbo or turbo no larger than a 3LM-466 (unaltered). Inlet must be no  larger than 2.33” diameter.  

All exhaust is to exit vertical the tractor and have 2- 5/16" grade 5 bolts in the horizontal portion of  the exhaust, they must be perpendicular to one another and be no more than 2" apart. No curved  pipes or mufflers allowed.  

Tires not to be bigger then 20.8/38 or 18.4/42 in 14,700 lb. and under weight classes. No cut  tires of any type.  

No water injection or ice boxes.  

Baler Monitors, Planter Monitors or Loader Brackets not required, but encouraged.  Speed is limited to 9 mph. Speed of 9.1 or higher will lead to disqualification.  Electric fuel pusher pumps are allowed.  

All Tractors are to be equipped with a RPM sensor; leads are to run to the back of the tractor. The  wires are to be visible the entire way from sensor to plug, any altering of the sensor or the leads  will result in disqualification.  

Altered Farm  

Weight classes offered: 10,700 lb. and 11,700 lb.  

2900 rpms MAX with a 15 mph speed limit. Speed of 15.1 or higher will lead to disqualification.  

Pressed steel wheels are allowed. Tires not to be bigger then 20.8/38 or 18.4/42. No cut tires.    

All tractors are to be equipped with a RPM sensor; leads are to run to the back of the tractor. The  wires are to be visible the entire way from the sensor to the plug. Any altering of the sensor or the  leads will result in disqualification.  

Engine is not to exceed 466 cubic inches. (Case may run 504)  

Electric fuel pusher pumps are allowed.

Legal injection pumps are as follows: 10mm. Bosch A Pump, 450 RoosaMaster, 13mm. Ambac  Model 100, and 11.5mm. Simms.  

Tractors are to be equipped with factory heads and manifolds; no intercoolers or intercooler  manifolds.  

No spacers allowed between the head and the manifolds.  

No water injection or ice boxes.  

Turbo shall be factory equipped, One 3LM-466 unaltered, S2E unaltered, or S200 unaltered.  Air shuts offs are required.  

Side shields optional but recommended.  

All tractors not equipped with roll over protection must have a non-pivoting front axle, whether it  is a fabricated front axle or a modified factory wide front.  

All Tractors are to be equipped with rear wheelie bars, and must be able to support the weight of  the tractor. Also it is suggested that wheelie bars extend past the rear of the tires.  

All exhaust is to exit vertical the tractor and have 2- 5/16" grade 5 bolts in the horizontal portion of  the exhaust, they must be perpendicular to one another and be no more than 2" apart. No curved  pipes or mufflers allowed.  

Any Tractor that is not equipped with a steel flywheel must either be equipped with a scatter  blanket or a 3/8" steel shield around the clutch housing. Any tractor without these safety items can  participate at 2800 RPMs.  

King of 15 MPH Class  

Weight classes offered: 15,000 lb.  

3000 rpms MAX with a 15 mph speed limit. Speed of 15.1 or higher will lead to disqualification.  Duals are allowed. Tractors are not allowed to use front wheel assist of any kind.  

All exhaust is to exit vertical the tractor and have 2- 5/16" grade 5 bolts in the horizontal portion of  the exhaust, they must be perpendicular to one another and be no more than 2" apart. No curved  pipes allowed.  

All tractors are to be equipped with a RPM sensor; leads are to run to the back of the tractor. The  wires are to be visible the entire way from the sensor to the plug. Any altering of the sensor or the  leads will result in disqualification.  

3000 RPM Class  

Weight Classes are as follows: 7700 lb., 8700 lb., and 9700 lb.

All Tractors are to be equipped with a RPM sensor; leads are to run to the back of the tractor. The  wires are to be visible the entire way from sensor to plug, any altering of the sensor or the leads  will result in disqualification.

All tractors are required to have an air shut-off capable of killing the tractor from the rear and must  be able to hook to the sled.  

All exhaust is to exit vertical the tractor and have 2- 5/16" grade 5 bolts in the horizontal portion of  the exhaust, they must be perpendicular to one another and be no more than 2" apart.  

Engine is not to exceed 466 cubic inches. (Case may run 504)  

The only legal turbo is ONE unaltered 3LM-466.
